Understand the Patient Payment Flow

Know what patients see from message link to receipt and confirmation.

Steps

  1. Send the patient the payment or statement link (text or email).
  1. Ask the patient to open the link on their phone or computer.
  1. Have the patient:
      • Review the amount due
      • Enter payment details
      • Submit the payment
  1. Confirm the patient sees the success confirmation.
  1. If needed, confirm the receipt was delivered (text/email) or can be accessed from the link.

What Happens Next

  • PayStack processes the payment and records the transaction.
  • Depending on your setup, the payment posts back to your Practice Management System (PMS) within normal sync timing.

You’ll Know It Worked When

  • The patient sees a success/confirmation message.
  • You can see the payment in PayStack history/reporting.
  • The patient balance updates in the PMS (or begins syncing).

Common Issues

  • Patient can’t open the link: resend and confirm the phone/email is correct.
  • Patient says they paid but balance didn’t change: confirm payment status in PayStack, then wait for normal sync timing.
  • Receipt not received: verify delivery preferences and resend if available.
